The premiere showcased the culmination of an ambitious two-year journey during which Compagnie ECO, led by choreographer Emilio Calcagno, and Rosada Letizia Zangrì, worked hand in hand to develop an innovative educational and creative platform for young Algerian dancers. The premiere featured two original choreographic works: Les Noces, set to Stravinsky’s iconic score, and Soyez les bienvenus, accompanied by original music from Franco-Algerian composer Malik Djoudi.
These pieces highlighted both creative innovation and intercultural dialogue, bringing together a diverse group of self-taught dancers and performers from urban dance backgrounds, offering them a transformative training environment designed to support their growth and amplify their voices.
Taking shape through monthly sessions, masterclasses, research laboratories, and immersive residencies, both in Algeria and France the programme equipped the 20 apprentices not only with technical and choreographic tools, but also with a deeper understanding of the contemporary dance landscape, its history, and its professional structures. The premiere brought this journey to the stage, revealing the artistic depth that emerged from the exchange of perspectives, methods, and cultural experiences across borders.
The performance illuminated the fusion of Algerian urban dance forms, contemporary European practices, and the personal influences of each dancer, giving rise to a shared artistic language that celebrates individuality while forging a strong collective identity. By blending raw energy, cultural heritage, and new creative approaches, Yallah Danse! opened a space for exploring how dance can bridge cultures, inspire new narratives, and expand artistic horizons.
This debut stands as a testament to the project’s mission: to strengthen the dance ecosystem in Algeria, empower emerging artists, and foster long-term cultural collaboration across the Mediterranean. Congratulations to Compagnie ECO, Emilio Calcagno, Rosada Letizia Zangrì, and all the dancers on this inspiring premiere!
